Experiencing the loss of a pregnancy, baby, or child is an unimaginable heartbreak. Our Baby Loss Support Group provides a safe and understanding space for bereaved parents to share their stories, connect with others who truly understand, and find comfort in a compassionate community.

This group is facilitated by qualified counsellors Melina and Mel, who have lived experience of loss. They work to provide a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment. Whether your loss was recent or some time ago, we are here to support you.

You don’t need to live in Frome or the surrounding areas to join us – wherever you live, if you can get to us, you’re welcome.

Support Group FAQs

When is the group on? Do I have to stay for the whole time?

The group is held on the first Wednesday of each month from 7-9pm, at The Good Heart Café on Palmer Street in Frome. It’s an informal drop-in space and you don’t have to stay for the whole 2 hours if you’d rather just pop in for half an hour.

Who is allowed to come? I don't know if my loss 'counts'.

Anyone who has experienced the loss of a pregnancy, baby or child is welcome to come along, including partners and immediate family who have been affected. It doesn’t matter when your loss happened – whether 30 years ago, or last week. Every loss is different, and no matter whether you were very early in your pregnancy, or experienced the loss of a baby after birth, all are welcome here. Your story is yours, and we honour every experience here. You don’t have to live in Frome to attend.

Who runs the group?

The group is facilitated by Melina Robinson and Mel Dalton. Melina is a qualified Counsellor, and Mel is a qualified Art Psychotherapist. Both have personal experience of loss and look forward to holding the space for you to explore your own story.

I'm nervous about attending. What can I expect?

During the meeting we may share our stories (you don’t have to if you’d rather not!) and there may also be activities such as art therapy and journalling on offer. You can use the space and time as you wish – nothing is compulsory. Our facilitators are available to hear you and support you to say as much or as little as you wish to. Hot and cold drinks will be available, too.

Is this group therapy? Do I have to share in front of everyone?

This group is not group therapy – although it is led by people who are experienced with therapeutic practice. You don’t have to share if you don’t want to, it’s OK just to listen. If you feel you’d like to access professional 1:1 counselling, Mel and Melina can signpost you to local services which can help. Have a look at our Counselling Service to see if you are eligible.

Should I come alone? Can I bring someone?

You can attend alone, with someone who is also affected such as a partner, or with someone who wishes to support you.

Do I have to come every month? Or can I come just once?

Some people come along just once, but others choose to come every month. It’s up to you – come as often as you like.

Is it free?

Yes, it’s free to attend. Donations are gratefully received however if you wish to contribute towards the cost of the venue hire and refreshments. You can donate here.
