About Us
Frome Birth Talk is a registered charity: number 1175641
Frome Birth Talk care about the emotional wellbeing of parents in Frome.
We recognise that having a baby brings lots of stresses & strains as well as joy and sometimes people just need space to talk things through.
We recognise that having a baby brings lots of stresses & strains as well as joy and sometimes people just need space to talk things through.
Frome Birth Talk began after the funding for the free counselling service in Frome Hospital (mostly used by pregnant and postnatal women) was cut at the end of 2016. We are a small dedicated group of women who decided to fundraise in order to enable this valuable service to continue - we believe that making this service accessible to local women in need is essential.
Frome Birth Talk exists to provide a free counselling service and wellbeing events and activities for pregnant women and new parents to promote good perinatal mental health, a positive start for the baby and resilient family relationships. We do this by funding and promoting a free professional one-to-one counselling service for pregnant women and new parents (in the first two years of parenthood), as well as offering a combination of free and fundraising events showcasing complementary therapies and good self-care.
Frome Birth Talk provides the only free, face-to-face counselling service specifically for pregnant women and new parents in Frome and the surrounding areas.
People can self-refer for six sessions of counselling when they feel the need and are usually seen within a week. NHS England estimates that up to 20 per cent of women experience depression, anxiety and low mood during this life stage, so Frome Birth Talk aims to raise awareness of this common experience and help women to overcome it and enjoy parenthood to the full.
If you find yourself struggling and need a place to talk things through with a counsellor, please get in touch.
